“Callejón” means “Alleyway” in Spanish

– and that’s exactly where you’ll find Mesón Callejón, an authentic Spanish restaurant, down an alley just off the popular Upper Street in Islington, London.

Dining experience

Whether you’re looking for a special dining experience or just a light meal, come down the alley to Mesón Callejón where you will always find the warmest of welcomes and the best of Spanish food at great prices.

Chef and Founder Pepe comes from Murcia in south-eastern Spain, and brings his passion for traditional home style food from tapas to paella, coupling the best-loved traditional Spanish dishes with Murcian regional specialities. He built his reputation in the bar-restaurant of the same name, Meson El Callejon, in Los Alcazares, Murcia, where it quickly became an established favourite (rated 4.5* on TripAdvisor) with locals and tourists alike, not just for the food but above all the personal touch and his care for his clientele. So much so, in fact, that one of his customers grasped the opportunity to bring Pepe and Meson Callejon to London.

Pepe bases his food on the freshest produce and essential ingredients imported directly from Spain. All his dishes have his personal touch, but be sure to try his speciality Pollo Customizado (literally “customised chicken”) or Secreto Iberico (“Spanish Secret”). For a special occasion – or just for a great meal out – call a few hours ahead to order one of Pepe’s special rice dishes – not just the traditional Paella, but also the lesser-known but absolutely delicious Arroz a Banda, a creamy rice cooked with fish and served with ali-oli, a regional speciality from Alicante and Murcia.

Even the desserts are all Spanish specialities that you rarely find in London, and all home made on the premises.

If you’re in the mood for variety, or just want a lighter meal, check out the extensive Tapas Menu – a range of hot and cold (not so) small plates.

But for Pepe, the Customer rules! Nothing is too much trouble, so if you fancy something that is not on the menu, just ask, and, if possible, it will be prepared just for you.

As you’d expect, there’s a first class selection of Spanish wines, as well as great cocktails, beers and spirits.

If want suggestions, or want to know more about the different dishes before you order, Pepe and his head waiter Jose are on hand to explain and advise.

Jose shares Pepe’s dedication to ensuring customers have a great, enjoyable and relaxed time – everything a dining experience should be. Good food and good wine is what they believe in – it helps make every day better!
